Erin McGroarty joins statewide Office of Public Affairs
Erin McGroarty joined the Â鶹´«Ã½ Office of Public Affairs as manager of news and content at the beginning of November.
In her position, Erin provides daily news updates to university leadership, maintains the Â鶹´«Ã½ website and social media accounts, develops and shares news pertaining to Â鶹´«Ã½, further develops and shares the message and mission of Â鶹´«Ã½ as Alaska's premier higher education system and publishes the new "Did You Know" spotlight series highlighting Â鶹´«Ã½'s critical role in Alaska's economic successes and future.
Before joining the Office of Public Affairs, Erin served as political reporter for more than three years with the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner where she reported on the Alaska Legislature, Governor's office, Alaska's congressional delegation, natural resource and oil and gas policy, the Â鶹´«Ã½ and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Erin was born in Juneau, Alaska but spent the majority of her childhood in Fairbanks. Erin holds an interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts from the Â鶹´«Ã½ Fairbanks, in journalism, history and political science. Erin has been recognized for her reporting by the Alaska Press Club and Alaska Professional Communicators and was accepted as an attendee to the Reynolds Journalism Institute Women in Journalism conference in 2019.
Erin currently lives in Fairbanks with her partner, Heather, and their two dogs, Diggory and Oliver. In her free time Erin enjoys reading, cooking and spending time outdoors.
