Caven Award Criteria
Complete application submitted at this link:
1. Cover letter summarizing the applicant’s qualification for the professorship.
2. A .pdf of vitae focusing on the last three years (July 1 – June 30) that includes the following recommended items:
- Personal data
- Educational background
- Employment history
- Professional publications in complete bibliographic form (denoting journals that are peer review and providing acceptance rates or other indications or evidence of journal competitiveness where possible.) When including works in progress provide evidence of acceptance of the final edited form
- Honors
- Professional activities
- Funded research and creative endeavors and other grants
- Economic development successes
- University and community service
3. A proposal of outreach activities that build partnerships with businesses, corporations, NGO's and state and local government entities to:
- Provide experiential learning and internship opportunities for students,
- Develop pathways for employees of several specific partners to advance to degree completion efficiently while continuing to work, and/or
- Develop and advance curriculum that provides stronger insight into the corporation structures, business operations and laws of the ANCSA regional and village corporations
4. A proposed budget for these activities.
5. A proposed timeline for the proposed activities.
6. Three letters of reference describing the qualifications and suitability of the applicant for the professorship. One must be an external letter of appraisal from other eminent scholars qualified to evaluate the nominee.
Criteria upon which the Proposal will be judged:
1. Application Criteria
- Must hold rank as a faculty member.
- Achievement through research and creative endeavors, scholarship or creative works, teaching or professional service during the previous three calendar years.
- Must have demonstrated his or her concern for the values of life both in his or her scholarly work and in his or her broader participation in community affairs and in society.
- Must be willing to exercise leadership in promoting a continuing interest in the life, works, and principles of Harold T. Caven in the university and community and in encouraging related studies where appropriate.
2. Professorship Activities Criteria
- Degree to which the activities proposed will create partnerships with businesses, corporations, NGO’s and state and local government entities:
- Provide experiential learning and internship opportunities for students.

Notification of Recipient:
The successful recipient will be notified of the president’s decision in May. The
president’s decision on the merits of proposals is final. The recipient must provide
the Â鶹´«Ã½ Foundation with an annual report of academic activities undertaken
during the professorship by July 15 of each year.
