REMINDER: No power or access to the Butrovich Building July 14 - July 17
The power in the Butrovich Building’s first and second floors will be off Tuesday, July 14 through Friday, July 17 for the final installation of a new 800-kilowatt backup generator for the systemwide data center. Building access will be restricted during these dates, and only Data Center staff and contractors will be allowed on-site.
University employees accessing the Butrovich Building before the closure can help by powering down their workstations and other electrical loads on Monday July 13. The Butrovich building will not be accessible until after the work concludes
On Monday, July 20 the process of final testing will cause intermittent power outages throughout the day. The Data Center will remain operational and network and VPN access will be available systemwide.
The backup generator will allow the Â鶹´«Ã½ network to remain online during a long-term
power outage, providing critical continuity for university business, including the
Alaska Volcano Observatory and the Alaska Earthquake Center. Backup generators have
become increasingly important as a safeguard against natural disasters that can result
in days or weeks of power loss.
