Maren Haavig appointed interim vice provost for the Â鶹´«Ã½ Southeast
Dr. Maren Haavig has been appointed Interim Vice Provost for the Â鶹´«Ã½ Southeast (Â鶹´«Ã½S). Haavig has also served as Associate Dean for the School of Arts and Sciences. She continues as Associate Professor of Accounting. As Interim Vice Provost, she will provide academic leadership in support of the university’s mission and core themes, promote academic innovation and creativity, and work collaboratively to implement shared governance practices.
She earned her Doctor of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in Accounting from Walden University. She also holds Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Business Administration degrees from the Â鶹´«Ã½ Southeast, as well as a Bachelor of Arts with an Interdisciplinary concentration from Western Washington University, Fairhaven College. She holds an active Certified Public Accountant license in Alaska.
Haavig is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the American Accounting Association, the Institute of Managerial Accountants, and the Government Finance Officers Association. At Â鶹´«Ã½S she teaches courses in financial and managerial accounting, fund and governmental accounting, and financial management.
Prior to working at Â鶹´«Ã½S, Dr. Haavig worked as a finance officer for the State of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, as controller for Alaska Pacific Bank, as an accountant and internal auditor for the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education, and as an auditor for the State of Alaska Legislature, Division of Legislative Audit.
A life-long Alaskan, Maren currently lives in Juneau with her husband, Mark, and their two golden retrievers. They enjoy the many recreational, cultural, and educational opportunities that living in Southeast Alaska provides.
