Â鶹´«Ã½ Foundation hosts reunion gathering for current, former regents and board members

June 3, 2022

On June 1, The Â鶹´«Ã½ Foundation hosted the first-ever reunion bringing current and former members of its board of directors and current and former members of the Â鶹´«Ã½ Board of Regents together for an evening that rekindled connections and celebrated the success of the Â鶹´«Ã½ system and foundation.

In its 100-year history, Â鶹´«Ã½ has had 163 regents and 165 foundation board members. The reunion was attended by some who had served the university more than 40 years ago.

The group of 90 participants also met Â鶹´«Ã½F Chancellor Dan White, Â鶹´«Ã½S Chancellor Karen Carey, Â鶹´«Ã½A Chancellor Sean Parnell, Â鶹´«Ã½ President Pat Pitney and Â鶹´«Ã½ Foundation President Tod Burnett. Foundation President Laura Bruce and Regent Chair Sherri Buretta welcomed the group and encouraged partnership between the two boards and connection between the Â鶹´«Ã½ system and its former leaders. President Pitney provided an update that included the budget outlook for FY23. President Burnett announced that the For Alaska Campaign was within $2 million of its $200 million goal.

The event was also an opportunity to raise funds for the Regents’ Endowed Scholarship, which provides substantial scholarship or fellowship awards to junior, senior, or graduate students attending any university in the Â鶹´«Ã½ system. Regent Karen Perdue provided an overview of the scholarship’s history, and Regent Mary Hughes quickly responded with a $10,000 matching challenge. The event has raised $26,900 for the Regents' Endowed Scholarship and other funds. To learn more or contribute, visit
